In arrivo dal mare
L'arrivo a Palermo, per chi la visita per la prima volta, può essere in qualche modo destabilizzante: su quella che, è universalmente considerata la porta del Mediterraneo in Europa, nei secoli diventata crocevia di interscambio multiculturale, si ripongono grandi aspettative.
In un misto di curiosità e stupore il visitatore non si rende subito conto dell'aria di mistero che su di essa aleggia, e se non fosse per qualche scorcio, qualche assaggio di sè, se non fosse per la Cala, Porta Felice e il Monte Pellegrino sullo sfondo, probabilmente il turista non noterebbe tutto ciò che la sua forma raccolta tra quattro montagne ha da offrire e riceverebbe una certa delusione.
Una volta sbarcati, però, fatti i primi metri a piedi, la città comincia la sua trasformazione: in maniera lenta ma costante, prorompente e talvolta dirompente, una cupola di qua e una di là, tra una viuzza e l'altra. Anche il profumo comincia a farsi avanti.
Palermo vuole incuriosirti ma il suo vero obiettivo è, puoi starne certo, quello di stregarti.
Arriving in Palermo for the first time can be somewhat unsettling: high expectations are placed on what is universally considered the gateway to the Mediterranean in Europe, which over the centuries has become a crossroads of multicultural exchange.
In a mixture of curiosity and amazement, visitors do not immediately realise the air of mystery that hangs over it, and if it were not for a few glimpses, a few hints of itself, if it were not for the Cala, Porta Felice and Monte Pellegrino in the background, tourists would probably not notice everything that its shape, nestled between four mountains, has to offer and would be somewhat disappointed.
Once you disembark, however, after walking the first few metres, the city begins its transformation: slowly but steadily, bursting forth and sometimes disrupting, a dome here and there, between one narrow street and another. Even the scent begins to make itself known.
Palermo wants to intrigue you, but its real goal, you can be sure, is to bewitch you.
